Op Shop Costume Ball and Updates

Hi guys!

I hope you are getting back into the groove of things after a nice Easter long weekend :) I went for a little road trip down south of Western Australia over Easter, to a beautiful coastal town called Esperance. Because Esperance is so far away (900+km from Perth), we also stopped over at the not-so-nearby Albany (four hours drive away!) for a day so that our drive back up will not be too torturous. It still took us about 5 hours of nonstop driving over 400+km to get back to Perth, but the entire trip was so worth it! <3

Anyhoo, getting back to work on yesterday was so difficult – I think my brain only came back from Esperance today. I did post up some photos of the trip so if you’re interested to have a look you can hop over to my Instagram @hunnybunnysoph :)

So a couple of weeks back I went to an Op Shop Costume Ball, and I thought it would be something interesting to share! Basically because this is a charity ball, attendees are encouraged to pick out an outfit from the op shops and wear them to the ball. You could go in a crazy outfit or pick out pieces of clothing and do a mix-and-match (or mismatch) as long as they’re from the op shop.

Guess what I went as?

To be honest I didn’t know what this costume was, it just looked like something from a Disney movie so I thought it would be a really fun to wear this. I did get quite a few comments saying I looked like a Disney princess, not bad for $12! :D

If you guys remember my review of the CLIO Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow here, I shared an eye make up look featuring the two products. That was actually taken half-way through my make up for this ball, so now I’m sharing the full make up look.

For the steps to the eye makeup, here it is! I used my Urban Decay Primer Potion on my eyelids before putting on the eyeshadows.

Naked Palette Eye Make up

From the Naked Palette: Sin, Naked and Buck. Eyeliner: CLIO Waterproof Pen Liner in Kill Black

As you already know, the next step was applying the CLIO Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow in Beer Pong on my lower lash line. I finished the eye make up with my KATE Volume Gel Mascara on my eyelashes.

I tried to take another selfie for a close up of my make up. Pardon the terrible lighting!

All ready for the ball!

For my cheeks, I used my 3CE Face Blush in Love Filter to achieve a natural flushed look. For my lips, I used the Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick in Valentine 09. I won’t go in depth about this lipstick as I will be doing a review of it soon. All I can say is that I’m loving it heaps!

I’m not very creative when it comes to hairdos, so I did a french braid and pinned up the flyaway hair with some bobby pins. I pretty much braid my hair every time I need to get dressed up for some reason, I’m terrible with curling and making pretty upstyle dos :(

So that’s it for my Op Shop Ball make up and outfit share. I’m hoping to do more MOTD posts after settling into my new place (I’m moving house next weekend :O) but until then, I should be posting up a couple of reviews, favourites and maaaaybe a haul? Lol I really need some help for this shopping problem of mine ><

Tell me, do you guys go op shopping much?

March Motivation Series #4: 7 Steps To A Positive Mindset and A Happy Life… And Keeping It That Way

Hello beauties, how’s your week going?

This is the fourth and last post in my March Motivation series, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to share some of the ways you could keep positivity in your lives.

You may have heard of the saying, “You cannot live a positive life with a negative mind”. That is so true! Attitudes have a spiralling effect so the more you approach life with negativity, things will never feel like they’re going right for you even if they really aren’t the case.

7 Steps to a positive mind

So let’s take a look at why each of the above were included…

#1 Make a plan for your goals: Set realistic and achievable goals for yourself and outline how you are going to achieve them. As you work through the baby steps, you will feel that sense of satisfaction and know that your final goal is slowly becoming within your reach.

#2 Watch your thoughts: As the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said,  “Watch your thoughts. They become words. Watch your words. They become deeds. Watch your deeds. They become habits. Watch your habits. They become character. Character is everything”  When you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts, start thinking of something cheery and pleasant to help bring you out of the mood.

#3 Think about what makes you happy: Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the things that make you happy. These few minutes will give you the opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and motivate you to work towards what you have yet to achieve.

#4 Do something nice for yourself: Take some time each day to do something nice for yourself. Whether you treat yourself to lunch, take a long and relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your make up to look prettier, you will  subconsciously be putting yourself in a better mood for the remaining part of the day.

#5 Look after your health: Most of us do tend to take our health for granted, I am guilty of that sometimes. But maintaining your health through eating well and exercising is key to enjoying your life. If you’re falling sick often or God forbid, develop a more serious condition, it would be difficult to even enjoy basic things like eating at your favourite restaurant.

#6 Read for inspiration: Devote some time each day to reading a few pages of an inspiring book or article. Even if it is just a fiction novel, there may be perspectives within that you might have just discovered :)

#7 Laugh: Yes, this is the easiest and fastest way to feeling happy! Sure, there are occasions when you need to be serious and appropriate, but being able to laugh when you make a silly mistake and not be too hard up on yourself helps you get through life easier. We’re all human and make mistakes, as long as we learn from them, let’s not dwell too much on the deed that cannot be undone :)

I hope you’ve enjoyed this series as much as I did researching and writing up the posts! :D

What do you like to do to help yourself stay positive?

March Motivation Series #3: 7 Great Ways To Kickstart Your Morning

Welcome to the third installment of the March Motivation series!

I’m sure every one of us has had mornings when we wake up feeling like we got knocked down by a bus, or just generally not feeling like the day’s going to turn out right (hence getting out the wrong side of the bed) and indeed, we encounter a few more hiccups when the day is barely halfway over. And we also would have had mornings when we’re just going about doing our own thing when a neighbour or stranger walks by and greets you with a megawatt smile, and we feel like our day is off to a good start.

Clearly getting ourselves in a positive mood helps to make your day turn out better. When we are in a negative mood, we tend to take a neutral event that happens to us in a negative way and the opposite is also true. So what are some of the ways we can psyche ourselves up for a great day ahead?

*At this point I will have to include a disclaimer, that I do not do all of the below every single morning, but I do practice more than half of what I’m sharing and found them to work for me :)

Kickstart your morning

1. Say Good Morning to yourself – Greet yourself the way you would to a neighbour or stranger on the streets. You’ll be surprised at how a chirpy greeting would brighten up your morning. Plus you’ll probably laugh at yourself looking silly anyway and that laughter is just what we need!

2. Think 3 good thoughts – These could be things you could look forward to for the day, or just how great the weather is or even just thanking God that you have a job. Positive thoughts help to put you in a better mood to start the day right :)

3. Drink a glass of water – Or two! It is proven that drinking a glass or two of water in the morning after waking up helps to activate your internal organs. You could also add lemon if you wish, lemon is a natural energizer so they’re great in the mornings too.

4. Eat breakfast – This does not have to be a full breakfast with bacon, eggs and the works, you could just have a simple peanut butter and banana sandwich or a bowl of muesli. Tip: Make breakfast muesli cups the night before and store them in the fridge overnight. You can take them out and have it to go in the morning if you’re in a rush. Saves time and money :)

5. Exercise outdoors – These could be light exercises such as walking in the park. Taking in fresh air in the morning energizes and freshens you up for the day ahead. Nature always look better in the morning sunlight so why not begin your morning with a beautiful view?

6. Read an inspirational or motivational book – It does not have to be an entire book; a chapter or a few pages would do just fine. You could also be reading blogs for ideas or listening to motivational podcasts. The best part? You can do these while you’re commuting in the morning so you make the most of your time, especially if you spend a long time in commute!

7. Get prepared the night before – I like to prepare for my day the night before – getting my work clothes ready, a simple to-do list for what I expect to be doing and even preparing next day’s lunch. When I get everything sorted out the night before, my mornings are usually more relaxed instead of being in a rush to leave the house on time, or worse, being flustered and in panic after realising I forgot things when I’m already halfway on my journey to work.

Are you already doing some of the above? What else do you do in your morning routine to psyche yourself for the day ahead? Please leave a comment below to share your thoughts with me :)

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s post and have an awesome week ahead!
