March Motivation Series #4: 7 Steps To A Positive Mindset and A Happy Life… And Keeping It That Way

Hello beauties, how’s your week going?

This is the fourth and last post in my March Motivation series, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to share some of the ways you could keep positivity in your lives.

You may have heard of the saying, “You cannot live a positive life with a negative mind”. That is so true! Attitudes have a spiralling effect so the more you approach life with negativity, things will never feel like they’re going right for you even if they really aren’t the case.

7 Steps to a positive mind

So let’s take a look at why each of the above were included…

#1 Make a plan for your goals: Set realistic and achievable goals for yourself and outline how you are going to achieve them. As you work through the baby steps, you will feel that sense of satisfaction and know that your final goal is slowly becoming within your reach.

#2 Watch your thoughts: As the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said,  “Watch your thoughts. They become words. Watch your words. They become deeds. Watch your deeds. They become habits. Watch your habits. They become character. Character is everything”  When you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts, start thinking of something cheery and pleasant to help bring you out of the mood.

#3 Think about what makes you happy: Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the things that make you happy. These few minutes will give you the opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and motivate you to work towards what you have yet to achieve.

#4 Do something nice for yourself: Take some time each day to do something nice for yourself. Whether you treat yourself to lunch, take a long and relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your make up to look prettier, you will  subconsciously be putting yourself in a better mood for the remaining part of the day.

#5 Look after your health: Most of us do tend to take our health for granted, I am guilty of that sometimes. But maintaining your health through eating well and exercising is key to enjoying your life. If you’re falling sick often or God forbid, develop a more serious condition, it would be difficult to even enjoy basic things like eating at your favourite restaurant.

#6 Read for inspiration: Devote some time each day to reading a few pages of an inspiring book or article. Even if it is just a fiction novel, there may be perspectives within that you might have just discovered :)

#7 Laugh: Yes, this is the easiest and fastest way to feeling happy! Sure, there are occasions when you need to be serious and appropriate, but being able to laugh when you make a silly mistake and not be too hard up on yourself helps you get through life easier. We’re all human and make mistakes, as long as we learn from them, let’s not dwell too much on the deed that cannot be undone :)

I hope you’ve enjoyed this series as much as I did researching and writing up the posts! :D

What do you like to do to help yourself stay positive?

This is a great post, Sophie! I completely agree! I just dusted off an old copy of “Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude” and looking forward to re-reading it again. These are all things I’m trying to focus on this year.

Thank you Lourdes! Ooh that is a great idea, you’ll probably gain a different perspective reading it for the second time. I’d love to hear what you took away from it after finishing the book! :)

I will probably blog about it because the first time I read it, it really resonated with me (but not enough to put into practice—ha!). I’ll be much more intentional this time around:)

Love this – and can’t wait to catch up on the rest of the series!

To keep my mind positive, especially when I’m feeling myself getting negative, is that I write in a gratitude journal each night. I don’t create a maximum number that I can write, but I do create a minimum. It usually takes a short amount of time for me to recognize the blessings in my life to “turn that frown upside down.” :)

Hi Jessica! Thanks for stopping by and I’m glad you enjoyed my post :)
Hehe I agree, the gratitude journal is a fantastic way to remind yourself of what you have and cherish! It was one of my suggestions in an earlier post in the March Motivation series :D This is actually my last post for the series but if you’re interested to read my earlier ones you can find them under the “Lifestyle >> March Motivation” section in my menu bar above :)
