Review: CLIO Waterproof Pen Liner in Kill Black + CLIO Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow

CLIO Waterproof Pen Liner Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow

Hello lovelies!

I heard your requests for reviews of items in my Sephora Singapore Beauty Haul and today I’m going to start with the popular Korean makeup products: CLIO Waterproof Pen Liner in Kill Black and the CLIO Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow in Beer Pong. Yay!

CLIO Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow Waterproof Pen Liner Kill Black

Packaging

CLIO products are generally in a black packaging to keep it simple and the Pen Liner and Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow are no different. Both items have a sturdy but light pen casing that houses the products within.

This is the close up of the tip for the CLIO Waterproof Pen Liner. It has a fine tip that is not flimsy at the same time. If the tip is a little dry, all you have to do is shake the pen to allow more product to flow to the tip. The tip is protected by a pen cap that clicks so that you know it is firmly closed.

The CLIO Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow is also shaped like a pen, only a little thicker than the CLIO Waterproof Pen Liner. The product is rounded at the tip to allow gentle application onto your eyelids. Like any automatic pen eyeliner, you only have to turn the barrel to increase the length of the eyeshadow stick. The Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow’s tip is protected by a cap that also clicks once it is firmly closed. I find this design very convenient and prefer this over screw capped pen closures.

Swatches and application

Gelpresso Shadow Beer Pong Pen Liner Kill Black

On the left I have swatched the Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow in Beer Pong, which is a beautiful champagne shade. This was only one swipe and it is rather pigmented. It is also creamy, which makes it easy to apply on the eyelids. I can picture myself using it for highlighting the inner corners or lower lash lines of my eyes. It would also be great to use it on the eyelids for a simple casual look while brightening the eyes.

On the right is a swatch of the Waterproof Pen Liner in Kill Black and that was only a single application. This product is so pigmented and so easy to apply! Although the tip is fine, it is not flimsy to the point where you need super duper steady hands when lining your eyes. There is some firmness in the tip that actually helps give you some stability during the application rather than make it difficult for you.

Both products are waterproof and when I washed my hands they were still intact and not smudged. I had to rub my hands hard with soap to remove the Pen Liner, and at first I thought I had removed the eyeshadow but when I went out after swatching them, I realised that the eyeshadow was still visible on my hand! These will definitely stay on your eyes for a long time, rain or shine!

Eye makeup using the CLIO Waterproof Pen Liner and CLIO Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow in Beer Pong

I had a corporate event to attend last weekend and I thought I would use the two products for my eye make up. I went with a small winged eyeliner and lined my lower lash line with the Gelpresso Waterproof Shadow to brighten up my eyes. I’ll be sharing more details of the makeup I wore for the event in a separate post so keep an eye out for that! I’ll just share the completed eye makeup for now :)

Completed eye makeup! The Gelpresso Eyeshadow is more visible in this photo :)

What I think of the products

I really enjoyed using the two CLIO products! They were easy to apply and so suitable for everyday wear. The Pen Liner allows for precise application if I want to go for a natural eye look, but at the same time can be used to achieve a winged liner look. It is so pigmented and I won’t have to go over and over to make it even and visible. I did not get it in Kill Brown but definitely on my shopping list for my next trip home. Needless to say, I will definitely repurchase this when it runs out!

I also love the shade I had chosen for the Gelpresso Eyeshadow – it is subtle enough for everyday wear and makes my eyes look pretty when I use them on my inner corners and lower lash lines. I got it at about S$20 and I think it is a little pricey for an eyeshadow. That said, this product would last you for quite a while considering how pigmented and long-lasting they are.  I’m considering getting the pale pink and cherry shades on my next trip to Singapore, they would look great layered for a soft look :)

CLIO Waterproof Pen Liner Rating: 5/5

I hope you’ve enjoyed the review and found them useful! Have you used these products before? What do you think of them?

Ooooh! Thanks for reviewing these! I’ll definitely pick up both of these soon! They sound great!! I love stick eyeshadows, but it’s so hard to find ones that won’t smudge or crease. I’m glad to hear that these work well!!

You’re very welcome!! Hehe this is my first stick eyeshadow – I don’t use a lot of eyeshadows so I tend to prefer palettes for an overall value for money. I need to mention too that I did use primer on my eyes for the makeup look so I don’t know if they last as long on my lids without primer as they did on my hand. Still worth a try though, the Pen Liner is a must get!! :D

The winged eyeliner looks good on you, on point! Lovely review on these products. I feel like I have heard about this brand before but I can’t remember where?!?! Haha.

Aw thanks Jan! I was feeling the wing that day. Some days my winged liner is just bad and attempts to salvage it makes things worse >< Hehe you must have read it from a blogger who likes Asian/Korean beauty products, or perhaps seen an ad of it? Sandara Park from the popular Korean girl group 2NE1 is the face of CLIO now :)
